Natural Gas Strategies a Boon for entire Province

________________________________________________________________________________________________

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE  February 2, 2012 - Vancouver, BC – The British Columbia Chamber of Commerce welcomed the announcement today of the Natural Gas Strategy and the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Strategy as road maps to success for sectors essential to economic prosperity in all regions of British Columbia.

“The government is to be commended for placing such an emphasis on our natural gas resources with the release of these two strategies,” said John Winter, President & CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce. “While many British Columbians may not realize it, BC is dependent on our gas resources for both jobs and revenues to fund our social programs.  Given the importance of this sector for the province as a whole, Chambers of Commerce will be looking to all stakeholders to support these plans as we move forward.”

The Natural Gas Strategy looks to enhance the contribution natural gas makes to BC’s economy by developing new partnerships and by expanding into new markets.  A critical part of this strategy will be to build a LNG industry that will allow us to ship gas to overseas markets.

“The LNG Strategy represents the first time in over a decade that the BC Government has attempted to create an entirely new industry,” continued Winter.  “Our economic and social future will depend on how we as British Columbians embrace this new sector.  This industry is sustainable, enhances our clean energy advantages and provides economic benefits for all regions of the province.”

The BC Chamber is the largest and most broadly based business organization in the province.  Representing over 120 Chambers of Commerce and 32,000 businesses of every size, sector and region of the province the BC Chamber of Commerce is “The Voice of Business in BC.”

Smithers, BC: The purchase of Hudson Bay Mountain Adventures Inc and related entities was completed

by Northern Resorts Management Inc in late December. ‘Northern’ is owned equally by Lorne Borgal,

Gary Mathiesen and Alfredo Hermano.

In Hudson Bay Mountain they share a common vision based on the strong position of the resort in the

market of Northern BC. They see a mountain with the natural characteristics that support long term

development and operation of a year-round resort. Anchored in the picturesque town of Smithers and

the stunningly beautiful Bulkley Valley with the best season long powder of any resort in the Province,

they are confident that they can bring a vibrant new era to Hudson Bay Mountain.

Director Joe Carnahan's production on his original screenplay The Grey has started in Smithers with production crews creating a locational set on Hudson Bay Mountain and a second shooting location at the Smithers Airport. The cast is led by Liam Neeson and features Dallas Roberts, James Badge Dale, Dermot Mulroney, Frank Grillo, Nonso Anozie and Joe Anderson. The story follows a crew of oil-rig roughnecks led by Neeson and left stranded by a plane crash right in the hunting zone of a pack of rogue wolves on the frozen Alaskan tundra. Here’s what director Carnahan has to say about his latest project: “The wolves have a territorial range of 300 miles, and they will run you out if you cross that. If you’re within 30 miles of their den as is the case here, they will try to kill you."

The Smithers District Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Smithers and the Bulkley Valley Economic Development Authority had area promotional material prepared for the cast and crew including menus from all area restaurants, personal services and recreational opportunities to take part in during their stay. The group also prepared window decals that welcomed the cast and crew and provided them to businesses throughout Smithers. We're thrilled to host the cast and crew and showcase our wonderful community.
